This book is the direct offspring of Viral Pathogenesis,1 D" c- L) E8 w( A( M& l
published in 1997. Having read several drafts of all the
7 `, g+ T3 V6 I. W) h1 Kchapters in Viral Pathogenesis, it was clear that the large( n) `# j, I- k: A ?
book contained a wealth of information, but that it was5 p9 {0 x! n9 t! A
unsuited for readers who desired an introduction to the* T0 P1 J0 a" C5 V6 d2 L# k
topic. From that observation sprang the plan for a short

An introductory text clearly benefits from the

This strategy was facilitated by the successful
