population biologists, among others. Integrating new technology advances with classical
3 N( i/ H e M- v4 nepidemiology and clinical approaches will not be a simple pedagogical exercise. Training the& j9 n2 g# u2 H$ E# n
next generation of scientists who can undertake this research will require more diverse course
5 d- Q7 F5 C# M6 d' ]offerings, enhanced training opportunities, especially involving interdisciplinary
8 j G: p$ m( _* H) g1 v2 Zcollaboration and computational approaches, and instruction in teamwork. To facilitate
# `+ z- }7 t6 d' z# J' t9 Sprofessional advancement, we will need to develop new strategies to recognize and reward9 q# }2 h r- S: r1 h
individual contributions to group scientific efforts as team science becomes more and more

" D) _" @/ o* ~ d4 n- W; pwill produce enormous amounts of information that will challenge our capacity to integrate it
$ l: d3 u( e1 U" Rinto useful conceptual frameworks. Imaging technology will reveal the dynamics of
7 Z3 C4 a3 H. I" F5 dbiological interactions at every level, yet produce huge sets of data that strain current systems
j" B9 \# a1 ~' n9 D/ U. Vfor information storage and retrieval. Methods to search, screen, recover, and use this
8 g3 z- b( K+ R2 C& o' `7 p linformation will provide new avenues for discovery and require a new generation of
